A Return on Marketing Investment? Oh, Yes You Can

Inbound Marketing, Strategy

In the business world, “ROI” is thrown around like a catchphrase. It’s what businesses strive for in everything they do – set goals to get a return on their investment, it makes sense. To reach your business’ ROI goal, you must implement some sort of marketing plan in order to be successful, right? My question for you is how do you measure your business’ marketing success? With traditional outbound marketing methods, whether it be billboards, print ads, TV spots, etc., measuring marketing effectiveness is a guessing game. When I entered the world of inbound marketing, this guessing game changed. The goals you create for your marketing strategy and the results it delivers come with proof. And I’m here give you the results.

Hello, My Name is Inbound – How We Set Goals to Ensure ROI

First things first, goal setting is never one size fits all. Ever. Business goals are unique to each and every business and vary drastically from one to the next. When it comes to setting goals for our clients at Leighton Interactive, we start by doing our fair share of research – data, analytics, interviews, and we ask a lot of questions. We’re great listeners. Once we have a well-rounded idea of who our client is, what they do, and who they want to reach, we partner with them to reach a mutual understanding of what they’re looking for when it comes to goals and ROI and how realistic this will be. This “mutual understanding” is extremely important to us. In our minds, we are in a partnership with our clients, and this means if they don’t reach their goals, we don’t reach our goals and that won’t work for either of us.

How We Prove Our Work Works

In the initial goal setting process with our clients, we figure out how we will track and measure the success of our marketing efforts. This comes in different forms for different clients depending on goals, industries, and nature of the business. Standard measurements we use include: new revenue, new leads, and new visits. During the month, we monitor our efforts for clients and create a monthly report to document and analyze the results. What do we track? The simple answer is everything. The long answer… blog views, website visits, leads, customers, social statistics, website traffic sources, and so much more. As the months and years go by, the results clients see are amazing (but don’t take it from me, click here, here, or here). It’s mind-blowing. Seeing our clients get results is what makes my job so rewarding. That’s my why. And you know what? My team and I aren’t satisfied unless we reach our goals, and when we do, we push ourselves even further.

Our Promise to Deliver

As the director of client services working face-to-face with clients, I can honestly say the individuals who make up the Leighton Interactive tribe are harder on themselves to reach client goals than even some of our clients are, and on top of that, we try to go above and beyond these expectations. Who would’ve thought? But this says a lot about our character and our drive. We demand results. If we set a goal, we work our asses off to make sure we hit it. This work ethic has given our agency 100% client renewal to date. As we work with clients through their first year of inbound marketing building our relationships and partnerships, we get in a groove of how things work. This allows us to continue to tactically set goals and meet not only our clients’ expectations, but also the high standards we hold ourselves to. We know what we can do, what we’re capable of, and how much our clients mean to us, so when we promise to deliver, we mean it.

Just as it does to you, ROI means something to us and we want to know that the marketing efforts we’re implementing on behalf of our clients are measureable and working. When it comes to marketing your business, don’t waste time. Demand results and see the proof.
